Weather finally got nicer today so I headed to the garage. Flipped the switch on the SS and it started right away with no hesitation. Odd.... so I did it a few more times and it started EVERY time.
So at this point I know I have a problem but not quite sure what it is and since the smitty IS ...

guys, I'm sorry that I have not updated on this. After going to Dr and cold weather here I have not been in shop. And it looks like the cold is here to stay for another week. 20 degrees outside ....just too cold for me to be in shop.

Saturday update:
I lowered the motor and blew out all the debris on the motor and everything else inside the case. Motor spins freely connected to all belts moving by hand. Removed the switch and direct wired the motor to an outlet and the motor worked every time it got plugged in to the wall socket ...

I tried spinning the sanding disc and throwing the start switch but still nothing other than a hum
I will go back in the garage tomorrow to get info JPG requested. (busy tonite)
as far as taking it apart that doesnt bother me I just dont want to buy parts I dont need and sure dont want to screw up ...

UPDATE:
I can turn the sanding disc but the motor still will not start.
The unit is from mid 70's and so far has been great ....no problems except for the mentioned switch.

I got ready to use the shopsmith (Old mk5) , moved the switch and the motor just hums. wont start.

I replaced the switch 18 months ago with a shopsmith switch could it be the new switch has gone bad already oir is it something else??
any ideas?
