Ed- the Shopsmith lathe screw center has a hole that's a little too small for a 3/8" x 16 screw, but maybe you could bore it out a bit?

Thanks for the Lee Valley find, I wish I had seen those before I turned a couple out of maple. Oh, well, it was good practice!

Chuck- Penn State sells a jig which holds the pen tube square to the sanding disk, rather than the wood square to the disk:

Great thread, Ed!

Would you please elaborate a bit on final assembly procedure- do you put the ferrule on first? Just press-fit or epoxy? Do you epoxy the shaft into the handle? Do you use a vise and press the shaft into the handle, beat it in with a hammer, or what?

Thanks,

Gary

It might be a safety issue. From the description of the steel sanding disk: "Heavy, 12" diameter steel sanding disc features a precision steel arbor that is carefully attached to eliminate bothersome run-out and wobble." If Shopsmith sold the disk separate from the arbor, the user mig...

way tube adjustable stop collar

from Ed's post (#28): "Height adjustment. While the quill is great as a way of adjusting the blade location or for setting stops while drilling it is no where near the fine adjustment you would like to have when routing. Yes it works. But when you are accustom to adjusting a router this will se...

Maybe cut the bevels initially at a slightly smaller angle (35 degrees?) which eliminates the length restriction, then trim the excess to the final 45 degree angle with a router equipped with a 45 degree bit?
