I agree with Holsgo. We got your stuck chuck off didn't we? Replacing a Gilmer really isn't that bad. It's a great opportunity to thoroughly clean and inspect the machine and really learn the nuts and bolts of how it works which is all part of the fun. Of course I regarded the chuck a matter of mus...

This site and the manuals have everything you need to do the job yourself. Why pay when you can learn about the machine while fixing it? No reason to be nervous. Pictures and patience plus this group will get the machine fixed in no time. Well… I appreciate the tone of the responses given so far. V...

So far, I’ve had a chuck that was stuck and a Gilmer broken. The chuck issued is dealt with, but this Gilmer issue will require, I expect, a deft g...

I'se confused - I thought it had a 'Gilmer'. Yes, it is a Gilmer belt. When I first started looking I would see pictures of both and thought they were both called "Poly V" with one being further designated as "Gilmer." So, though I still use the names interchangeably, I know tha...

Alrighty then, After some cleaning, measuring, comparisons and close eye-ballin’ it’s pretty clear that the problem was a burr caused by the set screw, either placed incorrectly to begin with, or twisted to the right of the flat later, being the cause of the burr that was keeping the chuck from free...

lo Ed, Yeah… I used a magnifier and a couple of Q-tip to check and clean the chuck. Indeed, there was a barely perceptible nick at the part of the shaft where the chuck seemed to want to stay after having been moved a few mms. I’ll take a little time to carefully smooth that down before reconnecting...

G’mornin’ folks. Dusty, after it came off I gave it a cursory glance, noted a small pool of oil gathered in the chucks hole, set it aside, announced and fell asleep. I’d spent part of yesterday studying various pullers and even designed one myself. But time, PB oil and good old elbow grease was the ...
