Did you tap it back on to see if once you did that you could return to where it was before tapping it on? If you did that successfully , I suggest you bug spray it, let it set awhile and then repeat that procedure until it comes off. (the tapping on and off procedure that is) IT WILL COME OFF! Good...

Good morning — Okay, Following last night’s various rotations, tappings and wiggles, as well as a promise of tickets for two to Aunt’s Julia’s Chicken Shack, the chuck moved no further. So, this morning, I toddled down the hill to the AutoZone and grabbed a can of PB Blaster. Smells sorta like bug s...

’lo Frank, Ironically, I just came up from using rotation with a little forward urging. This definitely moved it further along the spindle. So, I continued rotating one way and then the other. As well, when I decided to resort to a little tapping with the shims and mallet, the result was that the th...

That PB Blaster looks like some pretty useful stuff. However, being somewhat disinclined to trot into the chill of the day, I’ll hang with the pry, tie rod separator, gutted wood wedge, gentle tapping route for the time being. I mean, having broken the belt, it ain’t like I’ll be using the machine f...

You said you were able to turn the chuck some. This is a good sign. Now, patience must become you friend. If you get over zealous, you'll get it jammed on real good. Try turning it back the other way and then back and forth while keeping it oiled up with something like PB Blaster. You'll be amazed ...

’lo Ed; Terry (nod) Okay… (sorta) The oil and a couple of wrenches got the chuck turning on the spindle but it moved no further from the collar. After a few minutes I noticed what looked suspiciously like a rust coloring gathering in the oil visible in the set screw hole. I turned the stock to the v...

Suggestions to remove a stuck chuck?

They say that one good turn deserves another and, as some may have noted, my initial difficulty with this Mark V chuck have returned to possibly have a hand in the machine not turning at all by way of a broken Gilmer belt. To be completely fair that may have more to do with my decision to rig up a s...
