Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Truth of the matter is that at age 87 with macular degeneration (wet in one and dry in the other) I am lucky to detect a 1/8" deviation.

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Yup, it really doea sound easy. Now all you have to do is find a saw blade whose kerf is .125" and a board that is .750" thick and then position the fence just the right distance from the blade OR adopt the "close enough for government work" approach.

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Thank You. I can clearly see that the cut is not centered but what I don't see is the indication that the fence was not square to the table. Maybe I am looking for something that you did not mean to show. I gotta go back and read more carefully.

I am curious though. How do you measure (with what ...

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Sure do wish I could see this same piece cut without the fix (aluminum tape). Actuall, I wish I could tinker with your fence. I have two and I would call them both square to the table. However, mine are not perfectly straifht (end to end). What I find confusing about mine is that the miter bar moves ...

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

If the objective is total alignment to within a sew thousands of and inch - forget it. You might achieve that but you won't be able to maintain. I used to align (or attempt to) to within .005" but I gave up a long time ago. It was fun but making saw dust was more rewarding.

Besides - with my eye ...

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Now that I look at this I realize I have a similar situation but only a new fence can change my situation. My aluminum extrusion is not square. Not terrible but not perfect.

My fence is many years old but I thought it had been well cared for. Not the case. Let your finger tips be the judge. I find ...

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

Pardon me, please for being a skeptic.

Have you fixed the problem or just compensated for it. Are you certain that the casting (the part to which the pads attach) is properly attached to the aluminum fence extrusion.

Another thought. The reference surface appears to be the front rail but is the ...

Re: 520 Fence Is Not Square to the Table Surface

I'm sorry but I do not understand the consequences of what you have described. The face of your rip fence is off vertical by such a small amount. Just how does that minimal error impact the accuracy and quality of the resulting cut.

Re: help needed

Is the n6'3" estimate with or without the caster elevation?

Finished ceiling or open rafters?
