Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Guys, I agree that the basic problem with wobble blades is the fact that because of their action, they must leave a curved bottom to the dado with a radius equal to half the blade diameter. Sometimes this is not too much of a problem and in fact my stacking set tends to leave longitudinal lines alon...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Russ, The guard that apparently came with my 10ER is the middle one in your picture, the one with a thickened edge. On a different subject, I have been given a Magna 8 inch dado wobble blade from a friend who found it in a garage sale somewhere. It is made by Magna, not Yuba Power so seems to be an ...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Russ and John, The Australian 10ERs were assembled here by C.C. Engineering in Sydney in the early '50s and that is probably why they had cast iron table extensions. Magna probably just shipped out all their old castings! I have seen several Australian 10ERs and they all had the cast iron table exte...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Russ, No the Kreg is only bolted to the table top. It slides nicely past the table extension so moving the 10ER along the ways is no problem. The cast iron table extension apparently came with the original unit which makes sense as the original owner purchased it in 1952 I think. I have bought an al...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Russ, The input extension is attached exactly the same way as the original Shopsmith extension, to the front table rail except that because of the width, I have used two knurled bolts. So, it is very easily detached. I have attached a pic from below so you can see how it is arranged. I made the knur...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Russ, I made another new insert which filed out and it seems to be quite stable despite the minimal amount of metal left. I have posted 3 pics one with the Incra slide, one without and a pic of a much larger input table extension which I have made in order to increase the stability of the Incra slid...

Re: Bringing back to life: Shopsmith 10E & 10ER

Hi there, After a good lot of frustration I have managed to register and join this group! I am in Sydney Australia and have used my 10ER for about 30 years. The Australian Shopsmiths were assembled under licence here in Sydney by C.C. Engineering in the 50s and 60s and my unit is serial number 162. ...
