Re: Location of key on motor shaft

Dusty,

I haven't seen the other end of the key since I haven't been able to budge the fan sheave (tried some penetrating oil and prying with a large screw driver around the base). I don't see any problems that really require me to remove that sheave so I didn't want to force the issue. The pictures ...

Location of key on motor shaft

Is the key in this picture in the correct location? It is an Emerson motor circa 1986.

I removed the set screw, but have been unable to remove the fan sheave with only mild persuasion. Since the motor is running smoothly and quietly, I don't feel the need to force the issue farther. However, I don ...

Re: Bandsaw case window dimensions

I did notice the new cover on sale, but also that they sold the dust port and the window separately. So I bought the dust port to retrofit and figure I can install my own window ($15 vs $70).

Re: Sheave surface condition

Thanks for confirming. I can feel a slight roughness with my finger, but nothing that would catch or even cause extra wear (maybe it would shorten the belt life by a day).

Re: Bandsaw case window dimensions

Thanks!

They do sell the window separately, though maybe calling that a "kit" is an exaggeration. I figured I'd save the $16 by finding a piece of plexiglass.

Bandsaw case window dimensions

I'm hoping somebody with the newer bandsaw case with the tension adjustment window could measure the dimensions for me. I want to make my own, but thought I'd make it a bit smaller than the official window in case a future owner wanted to change it to the Shopsmith kit.

Thanks,
Joe

Sheave surface condition

I have a question for anyone who rebuilds headstocks. I've been taking apart and cleaning up a headstock that was stored outside for roughly a year (or so I was told). After cleaning up the sheaves I have one that still has some pitting. Having no experience with Shopsmith, I thought I would ask if ...

Re: Lock handle removal and mystery part

I found a post from some 10 years ago where JPG thought using the new eccentric bushing with the older style idler bearings should work. I've ordered one so we'll see, I guess.
