If the jointer does a good job with the blades like they are I would not worry about the rust until the blades do need sharpened.

I have used a heat gun assuming that you have a steel disc. Just heat up the metal of the sanding disc which makes the glue get soft. Then it is pretty easy to get the paper off and the glue that holds it. Hope this helps.
