Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
Ed in Tampa wrote: On my Shopsmith I adjust the table to be perfectly perpendicular to the blade. I then push in the table stop and adjust the adjusting screw so that stable stop keeps the table perfectly perpendicular. Once done it is steel against steel and I trust it. From then on I just push in...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
You asked...what is all this fuss about, .010" ? In short, "NO", that's what is wasn't about. The cause was not excessive looseness or a bend in the vertical pipes, since the TIR = only .010". This SS 520 has several defects and if it is not aligned in a way that minimizes these ...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
"BINDING". There was binding, but it was entirely the dust collector system. I adjusted the dust collector nearer to the blade and the binding ended, but now I get a lot more sawdust dropping. It is definitely not a tight system with large openings. Is there a thread about how to "fix...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
I used a dial indicator with the tip against the side of the main table. The table was not connected to the side tables for this test. I checked first and determined that all of the locks were tight and needed no further tightening than what I found. The blade was centered in the zero clearance inse...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
No argument about about level and the floor, but a twist in the four main two inch tubes might be a problem, so that was eliminated, first. The floor and table main tubes are level to each other AND the table. When the blade is perpendicular to the table at full blade height, the table is level, too...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
Re: Saw guard. Yes, the saw guard does get in the way frequently. And you have a valid point that it may be a factor in causing the problem. At the SS classes that I attended (held by at least 3 different instructors), the advice was to open the saw guard to the max to increase the removal of sawdus...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
I don't change the table lock after adjusting the blade to perpendicular at full height. I only change the height of the table. Another clue: I use a close (zero) clearance insert and when I change the table height, the blade is no longer centered in the cut (not by much, but enough to make me adjus...

Re: Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
Yes I have checked the table/blade angle and it has changed. This has been happening for quite some time, but I would just adjust the table by trial and error and keep going. The problem with that is that there is so little blade height that it is difficult to measure. To do so, I have clamped a str...

Perpendicular Blade changes when height above table changed
Mark V 520: Facing the SS main table, blade fully up, aligned to be 90 degree to the table (aka the table is level and the blade is perpendicular to the table). The OEM Style SS blade makes a beautiful rip cut on maple, oak and pine for example. But, later, when the blade is lowered, a rip cut on sa...
