Re: Screen Hunter vs. Snipping Tool

I do it a little differently. I use the print screen (prt sc) key to take a screenshot and then I paste (Ctrl V) it into my favorite free picture editing software, Irfan View. There I can do any number of things with the picture including saving it as a JPEG or PDF or a number of other file types. A...

Re: Tailstock extension

You could have anchored it to the wall instead of building a complex tailstock extension. Here is an example of what I think in extraordinary length.

Re: Plywood chip out with dado blades

I've had good luck with all of the above (tape, scoring, shallow cut) plus a good sharp plywood blade.

Re: raised panel door techniques

And, if you don't want to purchase "space balls," you can make your own. Just draw out some beads of silicone caulk onto some waxed paper. When it is fully cured, just strip it off the waxed paper and cut it to the size you want with your utility knife. Make them ahead and store them into ...

Re: Differences in Mortising Attachments 500 vs. 510/520

How did the older mortising hold down for the 500 get secured and does anyone know if it can be updated to work with the 510/520 fence? The mortising hold down for the 500 mounted by insertion into a hole on the top of the fence. It was held in place by a set screw from the side. At least that is h...

My favorite miter gauge by far is definitely the Osborne EB3. And yes they do make a version for the Shopsmith's miter gauge slot. It was designed for the "520" table but it will work on the "500" with careful planning. I was lucky enough to purchase it on sale right after they i...

There is even an accompanying book to this video (I have two copies). And it is still available even though it was written in 1945.

I'm fairly sure that the shaper dust collection is through the insert, not the fence. At least that is how I do it and it works just fine. Check this link:

Did you know that SS has an adjustable support leg? It would be much easier than trying to cut a 2 x 4 to the length needed for any support. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/table_support_leg.htm I did but I'm much too cheap to purchase it for very infrequent use. Just lower the table to ...
