I've used a propane torch many times - apply a little heat to the back side of the disc (not the sandpaper side) and it peals right off - no muss no fuss. There will probably be people who say I'll deform the metal like this - but I've done it more times than I can remember and have never had a prob...

Headline 1996, Dayton Ohio, Dayton Convention Center, Home and Garden show: Andy buys a Shopsmith MkV model 510 with the free upgrade (Bandsaw) while his wife buys a set of pots and pans for almost the same price. Flash forward to 2007, both the SS and the pots and pans are still in use almost daily...

I live in Dayton and am available to help, but I'm not retired so time is precious. One thing I would suggest is to focus on some way to get young people involved. I don't want to insult anyone, but if the Association only consists of older woodworkers, it probably won't grow or be sustainable for v...

You're going to be hard pressed to get a saw into a high school today. I didn't know we were raising such a new generation of unskilled people. That's sad, but I understand. I remember the days when I could shoot a gun at or use a chain saw on just about anything non-human and the world somehow sur...

One thing Apple Computer did when they were first getting started was to give computers to schools - the theory being that students would learn on those machines and grow up to be Apple buyers. Obviously, they made other not-so-wise decisions and largely lost out to the PC - but this idea may have h...

Sorry! One of my pet peeves are manufacturers of woodworking products that tout accuracies in the thousands of inches. To me this is truly baloney! I agree - I use Oldham blades at about $100 bucks each (works for me) and work to the hundreth of an inch for puzzle making - I used to work in a cabin...
