Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?

Adrian, Curious to see where this goes. We have 7 kids (1 boy, then 6 girls) and have homeschooled the last 15 years. Our son is moved out now, and this year is the first year we put any kids in school (oldest daughter as a sophomore and next oldest in 5th grade). The rest we are still keeping at ho...

Re: SS Mounted Thickness Planer clamps

Thanks, I ordered the coupling nuts noted. I’ll update you on how this progresses when they get in.

Re: SS Mounted Thickness Planer clamps

It is pretty close to the chain, I was concerned once I got a nut (and maybe a washer) in there, that it would end up hitting the chain. I feel like it will need a “low profile” nut. I’ll play around with it, though I fear a loose nut on top, while functional, is going to be cumbersome to take on an...

Re: SS Mounted Thickness Planer clamps

Yes, that looks like the ticket. Anyone know if that's a replacable part? Is that the unnumbered part above #81 in the exploded diagram? If it's not sold as a service part, think I could press an appropriately sized nut into that hole, maybe having to widen it first? Not sure how'd I'd get enough fo...

Re: SS Mounted Thickness Planer clamps

Maybe I'm missing some kind of threaded insert in the holes?

SS Mounted Thickness Planer clamps

After a harrowing experience with my SS-mounted thickness planer years ago when I first picked it up (involving the Power Pro headstock that “conveniently” runs in reverse so you can mount the planer on the “wrong” side—a less than stellar feature if you have it mounted the way it was originally int...

Re: Tree trunks and branches

Hi Brenda,

Sorry about the trees, but sounds like some will get put to good use. Let me know if my son and I can help with any cleanup or hauling anything away in the pickup. Our house in Cedar Rapids got lucky, but lots of work out at the farmstead by Belle Plaine for us.

Re: Shopsmith 10ER dedicated drill press project

Thanks, Everett. It's not binding for me, but previous owner didn't have the knob installed at all, so while the tie bar was on the end and outside the head rest, it was on the very end, not close to the headrest. The tie bar obviously couldn't be resting on the knob since it wasn't there. I don't k...

Shopsmith 10ER dedicated drill press project

Well, you all finally rubbed off on me and I purchased my first (I'm sure my wife thinks that should read "last" or "only") Shopsmith 10ER today (SN: 18677), to complement my Mark Vs. I had to relocate a big apple press and a large generator to my acreage an hour away (en route t...
