Re: New to Shopsmith turning
Tomasic is selling Crown tools with M42 high speed steel which is very similar to Thompsons V10 with his own "grinds" for only slightly more than the same Crown tools from other suppliers such as Woodcraft, Craft Supply, Hartville Tools and The Woodturning Store. Tools do NOT come properly sharpened ...

Re: New to Shopsmith turning
If anyone is interested Tomasic opened his shop for preorders this morning. Be aware though that it will be several months before receiving any tools from Croatia. They will be made by Crown and then sent to Tomasic for finishing.

Re: New to Shopsmith turning
Great start on your journey. Typical beginner bowls, a little thick but I remember being scared. I also turned my first bowl at Woodcraft in Clevelland. After joining the Buckeye Woodturners I learned just how Poor of an instructor that they had as to shape. I now do mentoring through the club and I ...

Re: Sawsmith 2000 broken fence
First welcome to the forum. I deleted our conversation on Facebook since my fence would not work. A picture would help as the broken part may be the same part used on other fences and just maybe could be salvaged that way.

Re: Must have tools for Woodturning on the Lathe
No one has answered your question so far it just got off topic. First thing that I would recommend is to find a Woodturning club in your area, The youtube advice is not necessarily bad nor is it the best. There are many videos where the turner should be taking lessons not giving advice. As a new ...

I would reccomend a couple of youtube channels. Look for Mike Peace and The Wyoming woodturner. Both have good videos on making ornaments.

Re: Universal Lathe Tool Rest min spindle length
FWIW I do not own the universal toolrest system but I do a lot of turning. I think it could be useful for turning bowls but not needed for spindles. I saw a video where a guy anchored his Shopsmith and mounted to tailstock to the wall and turned twelve foot long porch columns without the universal ...
