Re: Why Is This a NO-NO or Is It?

Rule of thumb: When using a rip fence, always place the long side of the piece to be cut against the rip fence.

Drill press mode problem

When I use my 1992 Mark V model 500 in the drill press mode, I notice a considerable amount of chatter. The larger the bit, the more the chatter. The quill bearings are fine. However, I noticed a considerable amount of play between the quill housing and the headstock housing. Is there an easy and in...

Another Shopsmith Sighting

Just got my June 2008 copy of Creative Woodworks & Crafts magazine. The article 'The Wood Artistry of Jim Everett' shows a picture of Jim's essential tools - a portable thickness planer and his shopsmith. It's a 510.

They're everywhere!!!!!!

Forum suggestion

Although a relatively new member of the forum, I've spent a lot of time viewing posts and member profiles. I've noticed that a lot of focus is on maintenance and fixing Mark V problems. This is good information, however, it may give potential Mark V owners/users the wrong idea. What I think would be...

Ag catching up with me

Ed, Here's how I stored my jointer and bandsaw. I constructed two shelves on a wall, one above the other. The jointer was place on the lower shelf so I could pick it up by placing my hands on each end of the jointer with almost fully extended arms and lifting with my legs. I only had to lift it up a...

Miter gauge question

You guys are too much!!!!!!

I did solve the glide problem. Didn't use shellac because I don't have any. I did use teflon pipe thread tape. A few wraps on the screw threads was enough. I guess all that daydreaming at work paid off!!!!!

Thanks guys

Miter gauge question

I disassembled the miter gauge on a recently purchased used 500. I encountered three problems during the reassembly. The first problem concerns the glide screws on the underside of the gauge. These are adjusted so the protrude slightly from the underside of the gauge and ride on the table. The glide...

My Shopsmith story (cont'd)

The purchase of the 510 fell thru. The condition was less than what I expected. Two other chances at a 510 also eluded me. However, after traveling all over New England looking for a Shopsmith, I found a 1992 500 in my home town and yesterday purchased it for $300. It came with a jig saw that looks ...

Thanks for the info guys. I talked to the seller and he informed me that he took the motor out and the shaft turned without a problem. Maybe there's dust in the motor. I'll check that out when I pick it up. It's still a good buy even with the cost of a new motor.

Thanks,

Shopsmith motor problems

I'm looking at purchasing a used 510. It has one significant problem, the motor hums and does not rotate when turned on. I saw somewhere on the forum pictures of a used motor and the name of the manufacturer of the motor but haven't been able to find it again. Can anyone help me with this? Also, any...
