This might be an option if you don't want to do the mortise. The brackets you reverenced are not suggested for new construction.

I suggest you watch sawdust sessions #23 - drive train rebuild. The video could help on several of your issues and it will give you a point of reference to discuss the issues you are having. It helped me with a speed control issue I was having recently.

Thanks JPG you were right. I was actually lucky. Nothing was broken but the lock nut was loose and the gears were not engaging. The speed dial on my 520 quit moving as I change speeds. The speeds seem to change OK but because the dial quit moving I don't have a clue about the RPMs. What is the best way to resolve this issue? What should I look for?
