How to cut coin slots
I'm looking for ideas on how to cut a slot to hold a coin on its edge. It could be cut through a 1/8" piece or just cut sufficient depth to hold the coin securely in a thicker piece. I want to cut about 48 slots side by side to hold 48 coins on edge one next to the other -- so I need the proces...

Blade guide assembly
On the shopsmith bandsaw, is the blade guide that holds the bearings a die cast or machined part?

Ok. I'm not trying to start an argument here. Really! Nick: the speed changer assembly includes a worm and a worm gear. The worm on my Shopsmith is bronze. There's nothing wrong with it. The quadrant has a worm gear cast on one side of it. It is correct to call it a worm gear -- the gear meshes with...

wishful thinking
It's wishful thinking that production will shift back from offshore due to fuel costs. It really doesn't cost much to float stuff overseas. When fuel is cheap, it may get pushed a little faster, but even if it had to sail over, if it were just machine parts, that would be fast enough. The cost of fu...

Shopsmith Inc. quality of sources
I think it is fair to say that Shopsmith tools have a reputation for quality. I believe that reputation was first built by Magna Engineering and Magna Corporation. That reputation and the customer base is one of the things that made the Shopsmith Inc. revival viable. The tools' have continued to enj...

Thanks
Those are some good ideas. I hadn't thought of using the router. It just occurred to me that what seems like it would be easy with a tilting arbor in this case, would be difficult with a tilting table. The bevel cuts can be done on a miter or radial arm saw, but at the expense of another tool. I hav...

heat
Just heat it up. Insects can't live beyond about 130-140 F. If you could safely heat the wood to 180-200 F and leave it there for a little while so the internal temperature is high enough, it would free of most creature life. Heat it up to about 280 F and it would be just about sterile.
