I hope it won't take real long, but it won't kill me to wait - I can work around it in the meantime.

I don't imagine SS gets many orders for these spacers, so if some fabricator is making the spacers for them, it might be a while until they get enough to warrant a production run.

Thanks Paul. I've ordered two spacers. They are backordered and customer service had no idea when they might come in. :(

Thanks for the responses. I just ordered the manual. It's item #845254. The price is $3.99 plus shipping. I'll report back if I discover anything new.

Charlese, thanks for the link - I had searched but did not find that one. I made the 27/32" "between the washers" adjustments described in http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/show...=speed+reducer and it seems to run a little quieter. I ran it quite a while and did not feel the headstock ...

Speed Reducer - does it ever need clean out or lubricating?

I just picked up a used speed reducer and I do not have the manual. I turned a small spindle yesterday for the first time and it worked well, but it was warm to the touch. The headstock was a little warm as well - never noticed that before. I'm wondering if I should open the speed reducer up and see...

Thanks, Ed. I assume that the levers simply replace the allen screws, so there is no need to get the tool rest. Is that correct?

Are the quick release levers available from SS? I don't see them listed as a separate item. If not, the thumbscrews seem like a good option.

I prefer to keep it simple: I'd break out the old Skil Saw and my Stanley pocket square to make that cut with the board clamped to my table.

When they have all the items in your order in stock, they ship it fast. The only problem I've had with ordering from SS is that they don't always tell you that an item is on BO when you order it. SS must have an inventory management system connected to their online ordering.
