My concern is that this area vibrates a lot. (The washer we're talking about is called a "shakeproof lock washer.") If you think it'll still work, great, I'll try it.

need help with headstock casting problem

I've searched for other threads about this. Didn't find any. Here's my problem. Got a very good deal on a new brown/orange Shopsmith. Looks to be in good shape except for one thing that I need help with. There are three holes in the headstock casting where the speed control asmbly attaches. The meta...

Quick help with lathe set up

I've searched and haven't really found the answer to my questions. I'm setting up my used Mark V greenie, bought a few years ago, for the lathe for the first time. I have the lathe drive center, but no lathe center for the other side. I know someone selling a lathe cup center, and I'm thinking of pi...

Help with loose dado blades on mark V - 500

I could really use some help here. I think I'm missing something very obvious. Wanted to put stacking dado blades on my shopsmith, but noticed that they were too loose for the arbor. Ordinarily there is a thin washer that sits between the blade and the arbor, but in this case I would need several of...

Bill's point, as I understand it, is that a C1 bearing compensates for a problem with the single-bearing quills. You can buy a double-bearing quill with C3 bearings and it'll work famously. But single-bearing quills have a drift (right word?) that makes them less precise, which the C1 corrects becau...

Right. This is for a single-bearing quill. My supplier should have done a lot of things that he didn't. Instead of looking it up, he measured it and compared the measurement to the old one. So, finally, I asked him to look up the right size and he said they have it, but in C3 only. According to Bill...

I was the one with the bearing issue. You're right about my supplier, or, at least the clerk doing the supplying. He measured the bearing incorrectly, twice, which should have been an indication of something. Anyway, I can get a C3 for $10 (not Fafnir) or a C1 for $25 (and I have to wait longer). Al...
