Re: Metal cutting on bandsaw. Mods and data

I understand. The vertical bandsaw has worked fine for years on metal. No problems.
So, I'll just stick with it.

Re: Metal cutting on bandsaw. Mods and data

Btw, you can cut stainless just fine. BUT, stainless is a tough one for any fabricator because it work hardens. You may be cutting along just fine and then the heat buildup will cause hardening ahead of your cut. Your blade will dull very quickly if that happens. This applies to bending it, cutting ...

Re: Metal cutting on bandsaw. Mods and data

In answer to the band saw blade question...I run 2 different blades. One is about 8 or 9 tip and one 11 or so. The lower tpi one stays on there most of the time. I like because it allows me to run stock though it quickly. The higher tpi is for thinner metals like down in the 1/8 thick range. After a...

Re: upgrades

Sorry for the delay. Tons of updates, most of my time though has been spent on an actual metal lathe and milling machine.
But, as I mentioned elsewhere recently, I still get a huge amount of use out of the shopsmith.

Re: Metal cutting on bandsaw. Mods and data

I have no idea where I got that rpm data. Either from the pile of papers I inherited this 1953 machine. Or from some post I found. Who knows. At this point I use the bandsaw almost exclusively for metal work and I can tell by ear what speed I should be at in certain metals. Still use it just as I di...

Re: Metal cutting on bandsaw. Mods and data

Here is an update. Looks like my original file with the FPM data vanished.
Here is a photo of the chart.

After sitting back and reading and watching...the whole thing seems rather high school to me. A bully, people feeling put out by the bully, complaints, binding together of people against bully, bully put down to 1980s theme music. Just my opinion on this one particular scenario and how it played out...

Well, I've been catching up for the bulk of the morning and it looks like the same issue keeps coming up (knowing this thread is tied to dusty's). First, as far as off topic in threads, I do see it often in various forums. Not sure how OFF you mean with regard to this poll. But, generally 2-3 posts ...

I don't post near as much as I used to. I moved much more into machining, welding and auto. I mention that because I didn't think I had anything to add and with that, seem to have missed much of why you'd be moving on. I'll poke around a bit and try and figure it out, in the meantime dusty, just che...

Haven't tried the citru strip. Tried something else that managed to just sit there and look glossy. I cleaned a few of the sanding disks of some 30-50 year old debris by using stripper, but it was as hazardous of stuff as I could get. This followed the "Kim kardashian" version I referenced...
