Cutting 45 degree angles on large stock?

I want to make a small book shelf with 45 degree cuts on the sides and top to form a 90 degree corner joint. The sides are 20" wide by 4' tall. The top is 30" wide. What is the best way to do this on a 520 to support the stock while making these angle cuts? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for all of the information. This is one of the best values of owning a Shopsmith (this forum).

Rust on jointer knives

I am cleaning up a 6" jointer (purchased in 2000) that sat in a damp garage for a few years before I got it. Both the cutter head and the three knives have some rust on them. Can I clean up the knives or do I need new ones?

Side to Side Leveling of Main Work Table

Although my main 520 work table is aligned with the saw blade, it is not level side to side. The back right corner is up slightly so that side of the table does not line up evenly with the stationary table or a floating table. The fence catches on the uneven space between the tables. I aligned all o...

Thanks Tim, the thread was very helpful. I just watched the Jacob Anderson Bandsaw DVD. I guess now the decision is whether to go with urethane tires or just replace with rubber tires. In the DVD, Jacob Anderson doesn't use glue on rubber tires. He says it isn't necessary in most cases. It does soun...

Removing Old Bandsaw Tires

I want to replace old cracked bandsaw tires with new urethane tires. What is the best way to remove, clean and prep the wheels for the new urethane tires? (There may be a past thread on this you can refer me to).

I didn't realize my question about miter guage alternatives/accessories would generate such a lengthy exchange. I forgot to include in my original message that I am left handed so I tend to work the opposite direction as right handed folks would do when using the miter guage and saw. I ordered and j...

I appreciate the hard questions. They helped me to think through what I am asking for. I use a sliding rip table in the miter slot to make straight cuts. That works fine with larger stock. Where I have problems is making angled cuts with longer stock. I have problems holding stock against the face o...

Miter Guage Alternatives

I am looking for a more functional and accurate miter guage for my Shopsmith. The Incra 1000SE and the Osborne EB-3 look good and not too expensive (would need to change miter slot bar for SS). The Incra 2000 and 3000 seem like expensive options to me. Norm Abram uses the Osborne guage but I don't k...

Thanks so much for the information on ways to use fixed collars. Being relatively new to Shopsmith, this is very helpful. I haven't done much lathe work yet. One of the key reasons I chose Shopsmith over other systems/setups is the great resource this owners forum provides to new as well as experien...
