Thank you for all your replies - there are a number of different model numbers on the front of the saw arbor package. It has a left-hand thread (righty-loosy, lefty-tighty: backwards from the usual way). The diameter is perfect, but the nut does not want to snug up, and leaves a good bit of space ...
