JPG you are correct my vent plate clearly shows it's a Mark 5, though all the literature delivered with it (dated August 1973) refers to it as a Mark V. And it is a 500 as Dusty correctly points out, however IIRC the 500 moniker didn't exist until ...

FWIW, The serial number of my Mark V is SS 6555, purchased new, unassembled, from a west coast distributor in December 1975 (for $700). Vent plate says Tipp City Ohio. And yes paint is wrinkle finish french grey.

Mine sounds closest to the one in Ed's video using a narrow blade, certainly no louder than any of the videos. So I've concluded mine is pretty typical. I appreciate you all clearing that up for me.

And my experience has been you not only can't get old disks off but the won't stay stuck down around the outer edge. Anyone found a way to re-stick the perimeter back down?

I just installed the PP upgrade. Included with the upgrade instructions are procedures for using the thickness planer with PP. I have a brief, less than a second, low rattle when I start my power pro above 2000 RPM. It's more noticeable, i.e. a bit louder, under load like with a saw blade on the spindle. Otherwise it is purrs smooth as silk. Is this typical? Is there an adjustment I need to make? I haven't talked to ...

I like it but it needs to work on both sides as I switch mine back and forth depending on the operation. Wasn't clear whether that's possible.

Having started with aluminum disks, I prefer them. Lighter, less inertia coming up to speed, but my favorite 'attribute' is the slightly tapered outer circumference.

The ribs on the backside however really stir up the air(and dust).

IIWM and I didn't need a lot of additional clearance I'd try adding a washer or two or three to the caster posts before I tried re-drilling. Just a thought.
