That did the trick!
The pinion gears are damaged, and there is some damage to one or two grooves on the lift guides. Can damage to the lift guides be repaired with a little filing?

Pulled out the square rod but the pinion gears will not push out. One will rotate freely for about 1/8 turn, but I can't get it to come out. I've tried lightly tapping it on the inside but no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

The table on my 500 binds when I try to raise/lower it. As a result, I'm unable to lift the table out of the carriage to inspect the adjusting mechanism. Any advice on how to deal with this?
