Just an update. repacked the bushing, lubed and waxed per 'sawdust session' and put all back together- that spring is fun! Fired up and sounds and runs great. Still can't start on high speed, so just make sure to run speed down before turning off. thanks for the help and advice on this forum.

The center does not rotate.
Any idea what the packing is called?
Can I saturste cotton balls in 3 in 1 oil and repack?

Attached are two photos of the bearing area and sawdust in question.
Do I just need to get all of this dust out of this area?

So- was the 'sawdust' I cleaned out from around the outside perimeter of the bearing really sawdust? Sure looked and felt like sawdust- made sense for it to be in this area as the vent holes on the end plate were also covered in dust. Do I just need to get all (or as much as possible) of this ...

Emerson motor lube

Cleaning headstock and motor- starting issues.
Took end plate off of motor to check cap (good 240 UF). End bearing had lot of compacted sawdust around the perimeter. Assumed it was sawdust- but found it to be oily. Was this some type of lubricant? Should a grease be applied to this sealed bearing ...
