Welcome aboard! I'm new here as well. I'd recommend trying ebay or craigslist before buying new parts/accessories. Free with no accessories could add up to spending lots of money, but at the least you could have some good parts. Just today I've seen ads from 150 to 1500 here in the bay area for ...

I've used SIMICHROME to polish aluminum and it's worked great, the only problem I can for see with using it on your table is it might come out too shiny. Maybe try it on some other piece of aluminum first?

No, that's not it. The one I was thinking of, the guy made a template out of wood, then made the final one out of some kind of low friction plastic. It was for resawing and he also extended the throat on the bandsaw.
