Chris, So you think 14 inches off is as much as I can remove while still maintaining the use of a speed increaser? I need to make this as short as possible while still maintaining the capability to use the machine as a shaper in horizontal mode with the increaser. I could start at 14 and work my way...

Scooters, How much did you end up cutting off? I have a recently acquired 500 and I'd like to cut it down for space considerations but want to be able to use a speed increaser for shaping. I don't yet have the increaser so can't make the measurements . I can go ahead and make the cuts based on your ...

Hands On!

After the discussions about the demise of "American Woodworker", I wondered if there would be any interest for a Shopsmith specific (more or less) magazine like the old "Hands On!" magazine that Shopsmith published in the past. So here is a poll to see what forum members think! W...

Is this just a matter of curiosity or is there a problem needing to be solved with the arbor?

I wonder if they have in fact already addressed this issue. The one I recently purchased really has no wobble and the fit of the handle to block is very tight. I can make it barely wobble the slightest amount by trying really hard when the two angle setting knobs are loose but even then it is hardly...

Mike,

Do you find that to be the case with both of the mitre gauge lock down knobs tight? I can induce a slight wobble in mine but only with those knobs loose. Once those are tightened the whole mechanism is rock solid with no wobble at all.

The Euroguard will likely be the choice I'lll make. I believe I now understand all the various options and how they work. If I can find a good deal on a speed increaser I will try hard to resist but if I fail I know I can safely use it for under table shaping!

Thanks for everyone's help! :)
