Sounds like your drill bit is dull. Drilling blanks should not cause that much torque. Probably stripped the coupler on the quill out towards the end. Pretty easy to fix.

I did not check Amazon, probably should have but I needed some other stuff from Shopsmith anyway. I have the traditional chisels and I do not have the patients to sharpen them up to the performance levels of a carbide tip. Excited to see how they perform.

FYI, the EWT lathe chisels and sets are on sale right now. Just ordered a set. Best deal I could find.

Pulley should not wobble. Motor may have been dropped at some point and bent the pulley. I would replace the pulley and start from there.

Access is fine and they do extend down to give you about 4 feet of clearance. I use the big plastic totes to store stuff in and they go about halfway back and then another one goes in front of that. Mine does the same thing, I think it is normal.

Even on my PowerPro the top of the unit gets hot after a while. Case acts as a heat sink to a certain degree.
