Fred: I have read this thread before, but it's been a while. Do you turn to rough dimension leaving 10% wall, then let it dry, and finish turning?

Thanks.

BTW: My 2 sisters and I have split the ashes in thirds, so the volume is hopefully large enough. I still have to finish the inside and seal it.

Box of Box Elder for the Elder

Yep - Box (urn) of Box Elder (soft maple) for the Elder (Dad's ashes) - my little boy;s cub scout leader had a large Box Elder taken down last year, and although I was late to the party, I did manage to score a piece about 18" diameter, and 18" long. I took it to the TAW Turn and Learn mee...

Thanks for all of tips and constructive criticism. I do respect this machine's power, and I do fear the loss of limb or digits, so I try to be very careful. My description was perhaps less than perfect, as well as my technique. The upper guard did have full anti-kickback pawls engaged into the cut w...

I admit it's probably user error, because I am very afraid of kickback. I did have the guard above and below the blade, with the splitter dead center (riving knife?). I did not have a feather board attached (don't know how?), and pushed the board halfway, and then pulled it the rest of the way maint...

Ripping cut not straight but bowed.

I have a 1955 Greenie with 1989 Power head. I had to rip a 3' long quarter sawn white oak from 4 inches wide to 2.25" width. I had the fence set squarely to the blade (tungsten tipped), and when I was finished the center was about 3/16" wider than the emds. I kept the straight side flushed...

The guy who made that video is a regular poster on TDPRI, and has also made a great SS long belt sander with fret board radius attachment. He goes by name of Guitarnut. He makes some great mods for the ShopSmith, of which someday I will duplicate.

I recently turned a 4" long Maple Salt Grinder (same as a Pepper Mill, but different grinder mechanism. I follow the instructions, and had guidance from master turners, all of whom had used different kits. I did use a Nova G3 chuck and started with a 2" long x 3" x 3" maple block...

I did receive emails today from Teknatool, and they have offered to let me send my adapter (IFNS) in for replacement with the new and improved ISNS. They will send the new one back after they receive the old one. Now that's good service, considering I did not buy direct from them but from an ebay re...
