Re: Shop Smith not spinning

Since you said you believe you have a Mark V 500 I am guessing you downloaded the 500 summary manual for it. The same one as the link below. Look starting on page 53 under Maintenance to lubricate the sheaves of the motor and idler shaft pulleys. Add a few extra drops of oil than called for at this ...

Re: Selling a Shopsmith

I agree with what Ed has already told you which I find true here on the west coast too. I believe many buyers are looking to be first time Shopsmith owners. Go through your Mark V and accessories to make them ready to use for the new buyer. Get them cleaned up and lubricated. Showing them as a ready...

Re: old saw blades

The 10" Dual Sided Sanding Disk made for the Mark VII is cast aluminum. It is not as thick or "beefy" as the 12" or 9" Sanding disks. It narrows down to less than an 1/8" at the outside edge. The hub side is conical but not as much as the current 12" Conical Sandin...

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith

JPG asked Wonder how the speed changer worked????? I have to wonder too. It looks like the Speed Changer crank would hit the switch box. Hopefully while restoring it you can go back to an original style switch and get rid of the switch box. Another helpful change when restoring the Speed Changer wou...

Re: old saw blades

Thanks Steven and JPG for the answers.

For those who may be wondering about the Sanding Disks they mentioned the Mark VII came with a 10" double sided Sanding Disk with the hub side conical. The 9" Sanding Disk was made for the SawSmith Radial Arm Saw.

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith

If you look to the left of the serial number you should see Model ER on it. That would make it a Model 10ER. I have never heard the actual reason Magna went from 10E to ER to 10ER on the Serial Number/Logo plate. My best guess has been Magna didn't want to redesign the layout of the plate when they ...

Re: old saw blades

StevenAyres, Since in my little saw blade history above I have the 10" saw blades coming out about the same time as the Mark VII was introduced I wanted to clarify the following. In another thread "Shorter Arbors" you commented about the fit of a 10" Blade in the Mark VII Lower B...

Mike, The Sawdust Chute/Lower Blade Guard P/N 505705 for the Mark VII that Steve is talking about is the same one I showed a picture of (on it's box) in my previous post. Since it is not the one you have there is no worries about using 10" Saw Blades. The 505628 Lower Saw Blade Guard you have w...

Schrump, Let me add my Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. As you are already seeing there is a lot of information available here. David has given you a link to the thread I started sometime back called Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where. There is a lot of information to be found in it including s...
