Re: Bandsaw eclip fails, wears out?
I got out to the shops today and checked to see if an External Snap Ring can replace the original retainer on the earlier Bandsaw's Upper Wheel. I used a 1/2" External Snap Ring as shown below and it fits in the Axle's groove. I haven't tried it in actual use on a running Bandsaw yet. _ Snap Ri...

Re: SC Johnson Paste Wax
To answer John, The current ad here on the Shopsmith Website catalog has MinWax in the Help Kit. I bought a couple cans of JPW after the news of it being discontinued. Maybe should have bought all the cans the store had. I could be rich. :D In a couple of years as the "value" increases I c...

Re: Bandsaw eclip fails, wears out?
Try finding the correct size E Clip to replace the original. I do not know of a source for the original Clip type that came on the earlier Bandsaws. One possible problem if using an E Clip on a Bandsaw that has the flat on the Axle is the E Clip rotating and one end or the center of the clip getting...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
I agree with John Burger about parts being changed over the years. Just not as picky of an item as not having a Speed Changer. I also found the non Shopsmith Miter interesting since I have the same hold-down on a Miter.

Re: Bandsaw eclip fails, wears out?
Below are examples of the types of clips and differences between older Bandsaws and newer ones. The first picture is a 1956 Bandsaw using the original type of clip that holds the Upper Wheel in the Axle. The use of this type of Clip can easily be determined by the flat side on the end of the Axle. _...

Re: Bandsaw eclip fails, wears out?
Newer Bandsaws use an "E" Clip to hold the Upper Wheel on the Shaft. Older Bandsaws used a retainer somewhat like the rings that hold the Drive Sleeve Assembly in the Headstock. When in place the E Clip should hold tight on the Shaft in the groove. I suggest checking to see if the E Clip f...

Re: 57' Greenie Won't Go Slow
The drawing below from October 1956 shows the parts of the Idler Shaft Assembly. The Clip JPG refers to is part number A3209 in the drawing. The Idler Shaft Assembly parts shown in the drawing remained the same until the change to the Poly V Drive in 1961. With the exception of the Eccentric the par...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
I don't see a Speed Changer in the picture nor is it mentioned in the ad unless I missed it.
The Miter is a non Shopsmith Miter but has a hold down set up like one that came with a Model 10E Miter I have which is shown below.

Re: New ShopSmith Owner - Goldie
Yes, The MARK V 500 Owner's Manual and Reference Guide item number 845435 covers the later Mark V information and much more than would be found in the 1961 Owner's Guide. Use, except for the extra Table Slot (1959 to 1980) yours should have, would be the same. Maintenance and alignment will be nearl...

Re: New ShopSmith Owner - Goldie
Army, Other than having the Manual that matches your Mark 5, I would still recommend getting a newer version of the Mark V 500 manual. The one that would have come with your Mark 5 Goldie would be dated 4-61 (found on the back cover) and is only 20 pages. The parts lists and diagrams were separate f...
