Re: Shopsmith History

John, You are correct in that Magna American Corporation was still in business into 1969. The proof is in that March 1969 Packing Slip. My guess is by that time they were only selling parts and accessories. The Mark 5 was discontinued in 1964 followed by the Mark VII and Sawsmith Radial Arm Saw by t...

Re: Shopsmith History

rsheffe, You stated, My father-in-Law has a green SS, but the serial number is very low: 85004. It was bought a LONG time ago...most likely in the 50's or 60's. See the pic. He says it is a Mark IV (4), but doesn't have any documentation. Any clue what this thing is? The answer is in the picture bel...

Re: Just bought a Mark 2

rsheffe, The answer to your first question is yes. The Mark 2 uses a smaller width belt. The Drive V-Belt is a 34" long belt and a 3L not the more commonly used 4L Belt. I have found and purchased them for my Mark 2's. Look for a 3L340 size belt. Your Father-in-laws Mark 2 looks to be in pretty...

For reference. #1 the picture below shows the Tailstock Eccentric in place. As has already been said it is a "Dead" Cup Center inserted into it in your picture. _ Mark Tailstock.jpg . #3 is the 5/8" Universal Arbor, later known as the Molder Dado Arbor, part number 505506 and a comple...

Re: Share your Magna memorabilia!

This may not be the best place for this but I recently purchased this less common Shopsmith tool to add to my collection. It is a 1998 Crafter's Station with the 510 Tables. Being less common and less functional it may be more of a memorabilia item than a tool to use. It can function as a Power Stat...

Re: 10ER Speed changer motor offset?

Warren, Was the information above helpful to your problem or am I understanding your problem incorrectly? The Motor should move enough to center the belt between the Way Tubes going to the Drive Sleeve Pulley on the Headstock. The Headstock Pulley should move on the Drive Sleeve Assembly's Shaft tow...

Re: I got a new to me mark

The cover I previously posted is showing the 1973 Owner's Manual which is only 22 pages including the covers. It does not include the parts lists or diagrams. Getting a more current Mark V 500 Manual would give you a lot more information. Even though your Mark 5 was made in 1975 it would be almost i...

Re: 10ER Speed changer motor offset?

Warren, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. It sounds like you have been looking here for sometime and have now joined. You have me puzzled by the statement, The previous (original!) owner of this piece never offset the motor. I am not sure what you mean by "offset the motor." As JPG said pict...

Re: Quill coupler broken - where to source new part?

danielsegge, As JPG and David have already stated it does take some heavy pressure to get the Drive & Ring on the end of the Drive Sleeve Assembly. If you look at the first picture from my post on April 20th you can see the slight chamfer David is talking about that should help spread the Ring o...

Re: I got a new to me mark

The Owner's Manual cover for your Mark 5 should look very similar to the 1973 cover shown below. _ 1973 Mark V manual cover.jpg . The Self Study Guide has 10 chapters. Another common book found with the Shopsmith Tools is titled " Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone " by R. J. DeCristoforo...
