Re: Speed Changer Shaft & Oilite Bushing Condition

If it was mine (and has been on at least one of my restorations) I would smooth down any raised ridges on the shaft to lessen wear on the new bearings. In use make sure the brass bearings are properly lubricated at all times to prevent additional damage. The replacement Speed Changer Oilite Bearings...

Re: Mark 7 120 v 240

ArtTrek, Welcome fellow Oregonian to the Shopsmith Forum. I run my Power Pro Headstock V1 on 120. I haven't tried it on a 240 circuit yet. I was going to make an adapter so, like David, I could run it either way. I haven't gotten around to making the adapter plus the shop at my new home has limited ...

Re: 10ER Speed Changer Retaining Ring Source

The Retaining Ring has to seat into the groove, but I can rotate it with a tool pushing it. The remaining ring you have should work until you can replace it if it still seats into the groove. As you continue to restore your Speed Changer there are a couple things to pay attention to. The three locki...

Re: How fast could you safely spin a 10ER?

I have not done any testing on high speeds, but the limiting factor would be the bearings.

Re: need help, what is thI s

Mike made a wonderful listing of set screws and related information for the Shopsmith tools. Keep in mind that from the introduction of the Mark 5 in 1954 followed by the various SPT's, the type of set screws used in different locations have changed over the years. Some locations have a specific nee...

Re: Denver Tryout? Universal Tool Rest for Lathe

Hudson, I don't know if there has been anyone in Denver that has sent you a PM yet but, in the meantime, you could try adding some extra weight to your Shopsmith to see if the 35 pounds of weight of the Universal Lathe Tool Rest would benefit you in reducing the vibration problem you are having. I c...

Re: 10ER motor spins both ways

don1357, I really don't have an answer as to why that is happening and not a problem I have experienced. I have replaced the power cords going to many motors used on Model 10E and 10ER Shopsmith tools I have restored. Mostly doing it to replace cracked insulation and dangerous cords. A plus is givin...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Ed, You said I don't recall if the 505 had the holes in the table tubes. I am not sure if you are referring to the holes in the Fence Rail Tubes for the Thumb Screw Locks for the Connector Tubes or the holes on the outer edge for mounting the Fence Rail Tubes to the Tables during the first year, but...
