Re: PowerPro idler shaft misalignment

That's interesting. According to the sticker this was a Mark 7 not an upgrade, but it's possible they ran out of the red switches for a little while or it got switched for any number of reasons. I'm about to try swapping parts between my two PowerPro headstocks to isolate the problem. More on that ...

Re: PowerPro idler shaft misalignment

I bought a used Mark 7 minus the table system. This was purchased at auction by someone, don't know what was done with before, likely nothing was done by the guys I bought it from. There were clear issues right away with the headstock, I could feel and hear a bearing problem and with a sanding disk...

Re: can someone tell me what the issues with the power pro headstock are

I've had a Power Pro ever since they were first introduced. It came as a kit, so I assembled it all into the old headstock and offset some of the cost by selling the old motor, speed reducer and speed increaser. I've only had one issue with it, which a tweak of the firmware has cured. I believe that...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

You have a 510 or later table system then. The carriage lock is different from the headstock. The headstock would use different wedges. That explains what 514095 parts are. They aren't threaded so the same part fits the left and right side. It was a 510 originally. I upgraded to the 520 rails etc.,...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

Just wanting to drop back to my previous point. Sorry for any confusion. I didn't suggest they were not Shopsmith Wedge Locks. They almost certainly are. But they are not 520 Carriage Wedge Locks (514095). - David Thanks David. Now that I've finally had the carriage lock completely disassembled, I ...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

Hi again guys. I have everything sorted out now, but there were some mysteries. I put the SS into drill press mode and locked it. I then removed the nut on the backside of the carriage lock and removed the washer and wedge. Unlike some images I've seen, the spring that pushes the wedges away from th...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

Is this only a problem on the carriage? Very easy to take a look at those wedge locks in drill press mode and see what keeps the carriage from moving. You can probably disassemble the locking mechanism without removing the carriage. The screws rust easily but are fairly hard steel and don't rot awa...

Re: Heads up - Double tilt and lift assist

I don't have a dedicated drill press and I believe that the Shopsmith drill press is far superior to most. I've not see any other drill press where the table can be tilted and it matches up with other functions that use the table. For routing I do prefer my Incra table and positioner but for larger ...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

Sorry, didn't realize you were hailing from the UK (didn't see your profile at first). Makes more sense now and sorry it is so hard to get parts there for Shopsmith. I'd recommend Ed's solution first to try to keep your existing wedges. If you can post some more pics of the used wedges that are on ...

Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

Not sure what you mean by jamming. If you can't loosen the locks with the headstock lock handle then you should clean the screw and threads in the wedge locks and other parts of the headstock locking mechanism. If the locks loosen but the the headstock doesn't move the wedge lock faces and the way ...
