Re: Shorter Arbor

miken, You are correct about the 5/8" arbor part number for a Mark 5/V/500 ... it is 555321. Sorry for adding to the confusion. And yes, there are new arbors on ebay from a third party supplier that cost more than from Shopsmith. Unless you are in a big rush and Shopsmith is out of stock, I don...

Re: Shorter Arbor

Like DLB (David) stated above, you can use either: 505511 is the Mark 5/V/500 version for 1-1/4" blade bore, which is apparently the one you have with left hand threads. 505321 is the Mark 5/V/500 version for 5/8" blade bore.. You can buy from Shopsmith, or they occasionally come up on eba...

Re: Shorter Arbor

Surprised no one has mentioned this thread, in which Russ Chapman attached his photo and text listing of most of the various arbors over the years.

Re: Rebuilding Mark V, GE 1-1/8 hp motor

Looks like a badly beat up start switch.

Here is a link to a thread about the start switch. I posted my experience with my GE 1-1/8 hp motor, and your part looks very similar to mine.

Re: Maintaining an old, long idle Mark V

Yes, #10 machine oil is sufficient. No "grease" required. The maintenance section that BuckeyeDennis provided a link to is a good summary, but be aware that there are many different versions of Mark Vs, and your model may differ slightly from that described in the summary. For example. the...

Will mail you two tomorrow (One red, one darker red). After this, I will have 7 left. All are the Photoshop version, 4 are the truer red, 3 are the darker red.

Sure ... I will get them in the mail today. I'll send one of each (the AutoCad version, and the two Photoshop versions).

Re: Sharpening vintage dado blades

I have never sharpened mine (6" Shopsmith, non-carbide), but a quick Google search came up with this YouTube video that makes it look relatively easy. If and when I ever want to sharpen mine, I will definitely consider trying this method.
