Re: Dedicated Drill Press
I saw a video on YouTube where the poster converted his shopsmith 520 to a drill press. It made me tired watching his struggles to make the conversion but eventually he got it done. Not exactly the steps I would have taken to make the conversion, but to each his own. (Might want to turn the sound do...

Re: speed reduction with variable input power?
I saw a shopsmith listed in my local classified several months ago that had an interesting modification. The seller used his machine exclusively for lathe turning. It looked like he removed the upper poly v belt but left the drive belt on. The seller had a large pulley attached to to the upper auxil...

Re: Speed Control Issue ?
It looks like the button bearing on your control sheave is totally shot. Sometimes you can just replace that part but it is better to get a new control sheave. The “ pork chop” or quadrant assembly may also be damaged. Individual pars are available, or you can just purchase a whole new assembly. Aft...

I recall that Mike Young made some comments about a power pro competitor in this thread.

Re: How do you really feel about the term "Smart Motor"?
I like the conventional headstock. I like the old nomenclature for the headstock. I like that I can repair the conventional headstock. I am just smart enough to appreciate the engineering marvel that the conventional headstock is.
The Smart Motor nomenclature doesn’t resonate with me.
