Re: Mark VII a start and a long ways to go..

Very timely thread for me Very nice restoration so far I recently acquired a mkvii (60’s version) in about the same condition as yours Price was right ($0) and I figured it would be a “parts” machine for my other ‘67 mkvii Came with 2 extra switches but nothing was working when I got it After a few ...

Re: Password & Time Zone

Thanks all.
I changed from “Shopsmith” to “prosilver” and everything looks completely different and I was able to find the password settings. I think the time is still off, but I can deal with that.

Password & Time Zone

I have looked everywhere and I can’t seem to find out how to change my password.
Also, even though the time zone is set correctly in my profile (PST), everything is displayed in eastern time.
I am using an iPad 6 (my only computer)

Re: Old MKVII motor

Thanks again to everyone who has replied. I just took a quick look and I can’t see anyway to get at the switch without talking the headstock off the rails. It doesn’t look like the motor cover will drop between the lower tubes. Am I missing something? It’s a little tough wrestling the headstock by m...

Re: Old MKVII motor

Thanks for the reply.
Believe me the last thing I want to do is mess with the motor.
As soon as I get a little time, I will pull the headstock and try to rebuild the switch.
Thanks again,
K

Old MKVII motor

I haven’t torn into it yet, but I was using my ‘67 mkvii last week with a small wire wheel in the chuck, when one time when I went to turn it on it wouldn’t run in the forward rotation. It just hums and vibrates. It seems to run fine in reverse. I’m hopeful that it’s maybe just the switch. I would a...

Re: Back in the Machine(ist Chest) Shop

Beautiful work! Most of the tool chests (26”) I’ve seen in my 40+ years as a machinist/ toolmaker have been the oak or the leatherette covered boxes. At the G.M. plant that I worked at the apprentice’s would be given a new Gerstner when they became journeymen. I always wanted a Gerstner, but couldn’...

Power Tool Woodworking For Everyone

A quick search of the internet I think has answered my questions, but I thought I would ask the experts. I have a 1953, 1955 and 1984 versions of this excellent book. My questions are: Is there an earlier version than 1953? Is there a version that features the 1960’s MK VII? A curious thing (to me) ...

Re: VA ID Card

After reading this post I decided to apply for the Veterans ID. I served in the USN from 7-72 to 7-76. After jumping through all the hoops ( idme, photo of my drivers license, and photo of me) I submitted the application on July 16, 2018. Received an e-mail “request pending”. On Sept. 7, e-mail “app...
