I am missing the wave washer that is part of the quill lock assembly. Does any one know if this is something I can get from a local hardware store and if so what size is it? Or is something I can only get from Shopsmith?

I'll second the Eurekazone (EZSmart) system. It's a very versatile system with endless possibilities. I have enjoyed using their stuff very much.

I think the argument I heard about using router bits in a shaper was that router bits are designed to be run at higher speeds in the 20,000 to 30,000 rpm range while most shapers run in the 10,000 rpm range - and my shopsmith would be even slower than that.
