Re: New to site and shopsmith
The shopsmith I am getting on Tuesday is the model 500. Does anyone know of anyone else upgrading the table saw top and fence system without buying the shopsmith upgrade? I've been considering the power pro upgrade in the future if I really like the machine, but wouldn't want to do it with the 500 ...

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Does the mark 5 have more than one drive belt? I haven't taken delivery of the one I bought yet, but yes, I am already scouting out another for versatility. Is the band saw and jig saw add ons very good?

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Yes, that is primarily why I went with it, for the superior drilling capabilities. I'm sure it'll come in handy when I need to sand something too or cut a dado in smaller pieces. Seems like a fairly ingenious yet simple machine to maintain as well. Does it use a standard size belt, or is it once ...

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Yes, that was a bit ridiculous too, but it's a pretty specific part and for me to order it directly from the distributor in Canada was going to be about $20 more ! The bit was $29. Plus shipping, plus duty plus exchange from us to Canadian. Dang! This better be a decent drill press! I've never tried ...

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Wow$2400 for the fence??? I don't get it. Oh well, I only paid 200 for the shopsmith, it'll make a dandy drilling and sanding machine. I don't think I could easily justify the cost of any of the upgrades. I have 3 other table saws, one cast iron belt drive with a great fence, another delta ...

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Yikes, I could buy a couple nice cast iron table saws for that, including a pretty nice fence.

Re: New to site and shopsmith
So approximately what is the cost for the 510 or 520 upgrades?

Re: New to site and shopsmith
Thanks for the reference to the eBay chuck, I just bought it. Now for the table saw. I've seen some with a bar mounted front and back that the fence clamps to, and others like the one I'm getting where the fence clamps directly to the table. What is this upgrade called? I take it that the machine me ...

New to site and shopsmith
Hello folks, just joined the forum because I'm about to buy a used 500 mark v. The one I'm buying is missing the drill chuck, which oddly is the main tool I currently have need of, a drill press. I'm curious though, how proprietary is the shop smith for things like that? I would like to buy a dado ...
