I had the same thought -- but then I re-read this page , and noticed the part where it mentions to "be sure the point of your screw will engage your Jointer Blade, when inserted into the slot." That would seem to indicate that the screws *are* supposed to act like set screws and clamp the knife ...

Quick question for those that have used/are familiar with the homemade jointer knife grinding jig described in PTWFE and in the Jointer manual -- the one made from a 6" scrap of 2x4 with a saw kerf slot cut into one long edge at a 45° angle.

What condition are your bit shanks in? Do you bottom out the bits in the chuck?
This particular bit has never been used before; other bits I've tried are also in essentially unused condition.

That is a bad assumption in my opinion.

FWIW, to my knowledge none of the 10ER arbors including the Jacobs 3326 chuck have angled set screws and the quill has same tapered flat as the MK V. Also not all MK V arbors have angled set screws. I have some here that don't and that includes the Shopsmith ...

No luck -- bit still wobbles with chuck mounted on upper auxiliary spindle.

Where to from here? Look into getting the chuck fully apart for a complete cleaning and reassembly? Get a dial indicator to measure runout on spindles and/or chuck body?

I did clean it up last night. Eyebrow brush (genius! the toothbrush I tried was way too big...) + mineral spirits, got all of the visible gunk/crud out of the jaws. Inspected for damage after cleaning, jaws and everything looked OK -- no visible scoring or other damage that I could identify... not ...

OK -- I've got some Simple Green, I'll give that a shot. Assuming I'm not taking the chuck apart, do I need to flush out the degreaser afterwards? With what... WD-40? Mineral spirits? Something else? (I'm no machinist, as you can tell, so I'm not familiar with all the proper practices, types and ...

I was contemplating a new chuck, though at least one post I read here seemed to indicate that the SS-branded chucks available new from SS now aren't the same high-quality chucks as the older "made in USA" Jacobs or Cushman chucks. So maybe I'm better off finding an older Jacobs 3326 on eBay, if it ...
