Still haven't learned

When I was a kid remember my dad telling me "Don't touch that..it's hot" so what did I do, I did what every kid did...I touched it and burnt myself. Dad has been gone now for over 15 years..so where am I going with this...today working in the shop, I had to attach some brackets onto a shel...

Re: Birdhouses, Finally Finished

Thanks for the comments! The metal roof looks good in the picture, not so much up close where all the roughness shows. I might try to give it a coat of a a finish that is less glossy but I may have to wait until we are given the all clear to travel as I don't have any on hand. John Get you some of ...

Re: Multiwood window shelf

I ran into this once and wrapped some maple with walnut outer band . Excellent idea but I think I'll use oak, don't have enough walnut. I also decided to forget the inch and half idea, going random sizes and grain direction a few two inch strips at various lenght but also a few bigger blocks thrown...

Re: Multiwood window shelf

I already got the support figured out, ordered a set of black iron pipe supports. Was gonna get the individual pieces from lowes, then saw them already in a set from Amazon for $15 couldn't pass that up...it the interaction of the various woods glued up I am not sure about, lots of end grain and har...

Multiwood window shelf

Was thinking making a inside window shelf for plants and what not, around 35 inch long and 8 inch deep. Idea being overlap the window sill and go out from there with L brackets for support...so initially going for an oak shelf, went to check didn't have a long enough piece, well ok maybe maple, same...

Re: What's the easiest way to make a 1-3/4" hole?

I think I would take a stab at plan A with 1 5/8 Forstner bit then expand the hole the extra 1/8 inch using a sanding drum, either free hand using a drill or on your drill press. sanding drum bit doesn't need to be the exact size, you can get away with a smaller size. Just outline the hole where it ...

Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting

I now have photos and with luck, I can insert them here. There are several suggestions that seem right on so far. First, since the bandsaw was stored unused for quite a while, I suspect you are right that it was stored under tension. Here is a picture of the current tension setting (E) , as well as...

Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting

First thing I would do is buy a new bandsaw blade, if it has been mounted for a long time under tension...it is toast. The second thing to do is see if you do have the correct tension. Being a newbie I assume you know nothing, not talking down to you, just checking. when you pull the cover (new cove...
