It sounds like gunk in the tubes and I personally would go to the store and buy some PENETRATING OIL. I wouldn't use any other kind of oil. It will say penetrating oil on the outside. No change to functionality

re-assembled with the new parts. I noticed the new part is closed out and doesn't allow for tube to interface with the legs. Maybe I wasn't the only operator who has had issues with this kind of a problem.

I'll get it shipped Monday! Then you can make some sawdust!

Spilled: I suppose but as noted. I suppose we'l never know. It looks like the new parts are $130.00. I want to verify I am ordering the right parts on Monday with SS. I have a friend with an arbor press and were gonna mess with it and see if we can pop the parts apart.

Every once and a while, there's been a discussion about filling the tubes with stuff (everything from lead to cement) to make the Shopsmith heavier and less susceptible to vibration as a lathe. Maybe that's what this is? Or is it only in the ends of the tubes?

Well Boys,Progress, and I'm screwed. Looks like new parts will be required.

I think the lesson learned in Take your machine apart periodically and clean everything. Especially those of us that have to store it in the Garage in uncontrolled environment.
