It sounds like gunk in the tubes and I personally would go to the store and buy some PENETRATING OIL. I wouldn't use any other kind of oil. It will say penetrating oil on the outside. Let it sit for awhile - maybe a minute, maybe an hour, maybe overnight. It should slide out unless there is other ...

re-assembled with the new parts. I noticed the new part is closed out and doesn't allow for tube to interface with the legs. Maybe I wasn't the only operator who has had issues with this kind of a problem.

Spilled: I suppose but as noted. I suppose we'l never know. It looks like the new parts are $130.00. I want to verify I am ordering the right parts on Monday with SS. I have a friend with an arbor press and were gonna mess with it and see if we can pop the parts apart.

Every once and a while, there's been a discussion about filling the tubes with stuff (everything from lead to cement) to make the Shopsmith heavier and less susceptible to vibration as a lathe. Maybe that's what this is? Or is it only in the ends of the tubes?

Well Boys,Progress, and I'm screwed. Looks like new parts will be required.
See the pictures below.
I think the lesson learned in Take your machine apart periodically and clean everything. Especially those of us that have to store it in the Garage in uncontrolled environment.
