Re: grinding wheel diameter
Thank you all! I was able to get my hands on a manual and I took the time to really look at it. It is really straightforward; the side panel on the guard is secured by 3 allen screws once removed allows for the sliding in of the arbor/wheel. It looks like originally the 4 1/2" was the standard ...

Re: grinding wheel diameter
Thanks Ed! But I don't see how it would fit in to the shield; I will have to get a manual or make a call. I really appreciate your reply.

grinding wheel diameter
I have a wheel guard with no wheel. The Shopsmith web page doesn't show the diameter of the wheels they sell! it seems like the max. diameter would be 3 1/2 " based upon the slot in the wheel guard. Is that correct? What am I missing?

Re: Rollpin
Thank you again. I figured it couldn't be that hard to find speed control bearings and I did and lo and behold the missing rollpin was indeed item 112 on the parts diagram and it holds in the retaining ring associated with the bearings. Clearly the unit would not run for long without it!

Re: Rollpin
Thank you all for your replies. I opened it up and I agree with garys in that it is NOT part # 88 because it is intact and not going to come out. I cannot locate the "speed control bearing" or a rollpin associated with it on the 500 diagram. Can you give me a little more information/locati...

Rollpin
I am a new owner of a Model 500 and I recently, following internet videos, cleaned and lubricated my headstock with success. However, after I tested it and buttoned it up I noticed on my workbench a small what I would call "a pin". i don't recall disturbing a pin but it must have fallen ou...

Discs
Thank you for the tip. Mine is a 10" for a MkV mod 500. Right now I don't know a PSA from a ceramic but I will find out. What came with mine is the 10" round metal disc and it looked almost like the sanding paper or disc had a paper backing. It was white and mostly torn off so I don't know...

Sanding Discs
Another simple question. In your experience is it preferred to use THE Shopsmith 10" Sanding discs (ie. $26 per set of 5 or 6) or are there suitable discs sold by other companies?
Thank you!
Thank you!
