Re: Shopsmith Bowl Chisel

Steve, just wanted to 2nd these M2 high speed steel gouges from Penn State. They're pretty good quality and will get you started on the right track. I still use some of the SS turning tools but they are carbon steel and don't hold an edge very long.

Re: Solid choice for a combo square

Based on a YT video form Stumpy Nubs, I bought one of these from iGaging and am very happy with it.

Re: 510/520 Table Flex

I never gave my 500 table a thought after locking it in place, but when I moved to a 510 it's been a struggle. After locking the table at 90* it continually tilts to the right with the least little pressure, so I bought this 'table support leg' from SS and it works really well to stabilize it.

Re: Vinwox 4" 4 jaw chuck?

I'd strongly suggest that you buy one with the t-handle tightener, rather than the two 'tommy bars'. I have one of each and really dislike having to use the two bars to lock the workpiece.

100% in agreement...they are extremely useful. And, when combined with feeler gauges, can in some situations also be used to make precise adjustments almost as easily as the adjustable collar. Which I also own...

Great tip about using a feeler gauge!! I’m making new kitchen cabinet doors and ...

Re: Dado Blade Advice

Also might want a dado set that cuts flat-bottomed grooves, for shelving, etc. where the joint would show. Another consideration is that most of todays plywoods are not true 1/2" or 3/4 dimension. So having a dado set that has various shims to get a join tight is important too.
