Ripping 45* Miters / Throat Plate Strike

Fellow ShopSmith Genius’s I own a Mark V 500. I am working in a wheelchair. I tried to set my saw up to rip 45* miters. I stopped and stood down until I got help. When I tilted the table down to achieve a 45* angle,, the throat plate struck the blade. I removed the throat plate to see how much clear...

Re: ShopSmith Caster upgrade issues?

Most Excellent! I did catch up reading other post in regards to potential problems. Thanks for the added impute. I plan on removing the leg to make the swap. That way I can use a bench. I will get it fit up. It’s a real hoot learning how to use a ShopSmith. Add in a wheelchair and that’s when the fu...

I know I need to redrill mounting holes for proper position. I read a few threads on clearance issues. My machine is a1983 5...

Upper Blade Guard / Miter Gauge Issues// FIXED

Fellow Forum, I wanted to post how two problems were resolved with Forum help. Upper Saw Guard Play. I had a lot of excess play in the clear plastic upper blade guard. I nulled out 80% by installing extra washers and shims at the rear pivot pin. Where plastic meets metal. Be sure that when using shi...

Re: Quill stuck out.

That did the trick. I pulled the entire quill assembly in without the spring can. It slid home. However I used and old single bearing quill for install. The quill I originally two bearing quill had in the machine still will not go in? I put the single bearing back in easy as pie. I still have the or...
