Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Hey guys, not sure if I should just continue this thread or make a new one, but here I am with updates! A lot of rags, evaporust, and a bit of elbow grease later, most of the parts are clean! Hopefully I will get some time to actually make something with it very soon (I have an idea for a present ...

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Very cool to see I'm not the only one with a Mark 2! I actually didn't know there were different types of it, I just knew they had a very short production run and weren't exactly up to normal ShopSmith caliber. To be honest, they might just be painted 2x4s, but they held up well so I guess I can't ...

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Ok, I took a quick measurement and I think it's a #2 taper, if wikipedia is to be believed. I did some cleaning up on the painted parts. So far, its looking a bit better. Now I wait for the evaporust to come in.

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

That one part with the small saw blade is not Shopsmith, It looks like a drill powered saw attachment similar to the one in this video.
That's actually kinda cool! There are a lot of things that I got, so if you can identify anything else (in the imgur album I identified what I could, some I wasn ...

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Ah, I think you were looking in the wrong place (and I also didn't provide enough pictures...). I do have the knob with a shoulder and the locking piece! The locking piece came off when I took the legs off to fit the machine in my car. Hopefully this clears up some confusion!

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Thanks for the motivation guys. The guy I bought the Mark 2 from aparantly 'inherited' it when he bought his house. I'm sure it's been sitting in his garage for a while. I'm glad the pictures are helpful, I can take plenty more.
On the topic of electrolysis, I'll give it another read and maybe give ...

Re: Mark 2 Restoration

Yeah, I can most definitely get you a scan of it. it's in decent condition except for the front. Do you want a scan of the Magna jointer too? I should be able to get them to you later today or tomorrow.
Also, thanks for the tip on rust removal, I will check it out.

Mark 2 Restoration

Hey all, new to the forum but I've been looking around for a while. I picked up a Mark 2 today from someone on Craigslist, I think I got a decent deal on it. Anyways, I'm looking to fix her up and hopefully start using it.

So I had a couple questions on the tune up.
1. Is there anywhere with a ...
