Thanks so much for the link. I thought I probably had the cutter too far forward. I appreciate the advice.
It was fun to do so I believe i'll try again. I've got plenty of 1/2 bar left

home made carbide lathe tool
I wanted to try the carbide cutters so I made a turning tool. It does work very well however i'm not sure if I have the cutter positioned on the 1/2 bar correctly. Any thoughts?

Couple of Upper Guard Questions
While rummaging around in the barn I came across a blade guard that I’m not sure where it came from. I’m sure it’s not Shopsmith but I’m at a loss to what it might be and thought someone might have some idea. My other question is could it be modified to work with my Shopsmith because I like the pawl...

Shopsmith location question
I have a small (12 x 20) shop and i'm wondering about lay-out. I'm limited on space so I was asking the best way to turn the shopsmith and not have to re-position for longer boards.
I have it on the long side of the shop now but that limits the length of anything I can rip.
Any Ideas?

I am curious now. It was a 510 when you sold it to the fireman? What did he upgrade on it? Everett Yes, I bought the shopsmith from the fireman. I had it several years and then sold it to a co-worker to build a house on his farm with the understanding I would buy it back when he finished. I was won...

Dustopper from Home Depot A +++++
Iv'e been using the for a few days and I must say it works exactly as advertised. Open the box, put it on a 5 gallon bucket and plug in two 2 1/2" hoses. Less than 5 minutes.
Highly Recommend.

Made a dust collector for my HF lathe
Used scraps from around the shop. Works GREAT on sanding dust however not so much on wood chips. An occasional chip will fly in every now and then but nothing to brag about.
I was really more concerned with the dust so its was worth the effort.

Thank you Russ, This old gal has build a portion of at least three houses. I give it a pretty good workout almost every days sill. I have the big can of JPW and use it constantly. I'm really happy to have it back home. I saw my first SS demonstration in the middle of the mall in North Little Rock, A...
