Re: mark II

Russ, that is quite a collection, a museum of sorts. They look brand new. It is not only a technical skill, but an art. Keep the tradition alive.

Re: mark II

In the 1950's we didn't frequent Montgomery Ward much. Most of the time we went to Sears Roebuck near Beachwood, Ohio, and got blocks of chocolate from the concession stand. We then shopped for tools. We ate a few blocks on the way home. That was quite a treat for the little kid I was then. Your ...

Re: mark II

Russ, thanks for all the info. The "household" switch was probably a bad idea by the prior owner. It's not really rated for a motor even though it probably worked. I did upgrade my Mark 2 with a Mark 5 table, extension, fence, miter gauge. My original fence and miter gauge cracked. I fixed them as ...

Re: mark II

Russ, amazing upgrade to your Mark II. Did you replace bearings in the motor and quill? If so, how did you find the replacement parts? Thanks. Mario

Re: mark II

I know this is about 16 years late of a response but just want to add that I still have my dad's Mark 2 and still works great, although I'm considering replacing motor and quell bearings if I can find the parts. I may dismantle it and search for bearing by bearing numbers stamped on the bearings or ...

Re: Shopsmith Mark 2 Compatibility

Thanks for your quick reply. I think I'll upgrade to the Mark V table and carriage, fence and miter if I can find them. Also, would the Mark 510 or 520 setup for these also work on the Mark 2. I really appreciate your guidance. (I tried aluminum welding the broken fence and it seems secure, but I ...

Shopsmith Mark 2 Compatibility

I have a 1957 Shopsmith Mark 2 that I shopped for and bought with my dad when I was 7 years old. He passed away years ago and I kept it, use it, and hope to pass it on to my son. The fence and miter both fell recently and broke. I would either like to replace them if I can find them, or better yet ...

Re: Mark 5 to Mark2 Tailstock

Can you confirm weather the Mark V tailstock will fit on the Mark 2. I'm trying to upgrade the lathe accessories to a Nova G3 chuck system and want to add a "live center" (tapered) at the other end to fit into a tailstock. I've been told both that the Mark V tailstock will and won't fit. Do you know ...
