Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting

Fantastic. Best news is that we know what got me into this situation. The Bandsaw was properly stored with Zero tension on the blade. Operating the saw with no tension, explains two things: the smell of hot rubber, AND the blade jumping and making contact with the round table insert. The tires (fmly...

Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting

I now have photos and with luck, I can insert them here. There are several suggestions that seem right on so far. First, since the bandsaw was stored unused for quite a while, I suspect you are right that it was stored under tension. Here is a picture of the current tension setting (E) , as well as ...

Re: Bandsaw trouble shooting

Thanks for the initial responses. I do appreciate some basic clarification of terms. I will take some photos and try to be more descriptive. When I said the there were grooves in the belt, I meant that the wheel track (where the belt fits) is concave shaped. I was referencing the concave shape as th...

Bandsaw trouble shooting

As a new owner of an old Mark V 500, I've been enjoying using the machine to build my basement workshop....and have slowly and cautiously been educating myself on the many accessories that came with it. Today, I fired up the Bandsaw for the first time. Visually, the band saw looks to be in pristine ...

Re: Repurposing vs Recycling old furniture Pros & cons?

This was exactly what I had in mind.....the old twin beds and turning the bed posts! I've got a set of two walnut twin beds in the basement storage that my wife won't let me destroy, yet we've had no use for for 15 years!

Re: Repurposing vs Recycling old furniture Pros & cons?

OMG....so many have experience with using old furniture, but I NEVER hear anyone brag about that....it seems such an obvious source.....and generally, the beautiful hardwoods are more likely stained than painted....in my experience.

Re: Repurposing vs Recycling old furniture Pros & cons?

Dusty, I was specifically thinking about repurposing for "turning projects" forgoing the planer / jointer altogether. Just let the turning process remove the outer paint and / or stain, and I think the lathe chisels are easier to sharpen. Any health concerns with turning pre-stained / pain...

Repurposing vs Recycling old furniture Pros & cons?

There are lots of suggestions online about using recycled shipping pallets for projects. I've wondered if old hardwood furniture that has been painted or stained could also be re-cycled for woodworking? (this is definitely a "newbie" question that probably has a really short "NO"...

Re: Best general purpose table saw blade for a newbie

Roy_okc....thanks for that callout re: arbor size. is 5/8 " an unusual size for blades? Will that be difficult to find in a big box store. This would be an easy mistake for me to make thinking "one size fits all". Also, I think I understand that I can get either an 8" or 10"...
