Milky Finish

I am not familiar with the finish you are using but it sounds like it is an oil finish. Some of them will leave a milky look when they come in contact with a surface that has moisture in it. Is it possible that your wood was not absolutely dry? especially when using end grain wood, moisture can seep ...

If you use the planer enough, buy a spare set of blades that way you can have one pair being sharpened while the other is in use. Actually sharpening (versus an interim honing job) these blades requires very special accurate equipment to do any kind of a good job. When the blades are not too dull ...
