The really big upgrade of version 8 (as far as woodworking is concerned) is in the professional version. It's the inclusion of solid tools. The best example of this would be in making dovetails in a drawing. In the old version to had to drawn both sides of the joint (there were some short cuts that ...

Well, a new development... now it no longer goes at all. When I turn on the main power switch it hear a couple of clicks and the LCD backlight comes on, but no messages or beeps. I've unplugged it for a 1/2 hour and retried it (oneway lathes sometimes need this with their DVR) but the same thing. Is...

I noticed something when I was at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. They have Sawstops and after a few months of using them, many of my fellow students were putting their hands way too close to the blade for my comfort. When I mentioned it, several said the saw would stop if they touc...

This particular PowerPro is Shopsmith built so the belt alignment should be good--but I'll check it. Interesting development. I just ran through the speeds again and when I select 9500 and start it, it quickly comes up to 8500 and then takes about 15 seconds to come up the last 1000rpms to 9500. I m...

Hope Lowe's in Florence, KY has a demo I would love to check out the new machine in person. Never know what might happen when I am looking at a live machine. Hmmmm I wish Shopsmith still had the Dayton store open, I miss that place. Bought my Shopsmith there back in 92. what a great place. I went t...

My new PowerPro HS only goes to ~8500rpm

I just installed my new Power Pro headstock and I was giving it a run through the speed range without a load to make sure everything was okay. Works great up to 8500rpms but won't go beyond that--even when selecting the 9500rpm present and starting on that setting. I'll check the voltage at the outl...

Thanks, everyone. I checked out the woodgears site and yes somethng like that is what I had in mind. Although it would only need to move side to side and not in and out as well. I'll let you know how it goes.

Horizontal mortiser?

Hello- I'm wondering if anyone has ever made a table that slides on some type of drawer hardware and used it on the Shopsmith to turn it into an X Y Z horizontal mortiser? Since the Shopsmith already has the quill for Z axis and the table height for Y access, you would just need this table and a sys...
